DS-THUNDERHEAD

This hybrid redefines what it means for a Streptocarpus to have large flowers. The flowers can reach 14 (5.5”) cm in diameter. This hybrid, judging by the size of the cells and stomata (pores) viewed under a microscope, might be polyploid. Therefore, all the tissues in this plant are enlarged.
The long-living flowers have deep velvety burgundy background with a streaked yellow throat.
The rosette is composed of short, meaty, rounded leaves. The rosette can be considered self forming because it usually does not generate additional rosettes. However, in the event it does, additional rosettes should be trimmed because this hybrid should be grown with only one rosette. The leaves grow one after another and vigorously produce flower stalks. This variety grows slowly but surely.
This hybrid is very sensitive to the salinity of the soil, so this soil should be no less than 50% sphagnum, perlite or pine bark. It needs to be replanted often because it does not like a salty decomposed substrate. This means that during repotting you should replace as much soil from the roots as possible.
With proper care this hybrid will never cease to amaze you with its gigantic astonishing flowers.
