DS-Crystal Lace, (DS-488)

The winner of many Dimetris’ exhibitions!

This cultivar could be called perfect. Of course, there is no limit to perfection, but for now this Streptocaprus is superior to many others. Why? We are not just talking about the blossom quality. After all, the beauty of the blossoms is very often a matter of preference, but we all agree that other qualities are important.

This cultivar is a vigorous grower and heavy bloomer. However, it does not have the negative characteristics of many heavy bloomers. This cultivar is much easier to grow, as they require much less intervention from us to take care of the rosettes. This hybrid does it itself. We call it self-forming.

Leaves are firm and proportional. They are not too long or too short - you do not need to trim them. They do not hang and do not stand up like a corn stalk. They create a medium size rosette that due to “accurate” leaves could even be called compact. It is preferable to leave only one (maximum two) rosette on the plant.

It has strong peduncles which graciously hold the blossoms over the leaves. This hybrid easily creates a hat of flowers. It is common that cultivar has 50-100 blossom at a time.

In spite of the quick growth and prolific flowering, this variety has great hormonal balance, which means that flowering does not exhaust the plant. We know many hybrids which could die after flowering. This one only needs frequent repotting during heavy blooming.

This cultivar has great immune response which means resistance to different bacterial and fungal infection.

DS-Crystal Lace shows its best features starting from six months to three years.

From the original Russian forum
This is the product of crossing between the Cloudlet and Silivans
The first seedling

The color is the same as DS-Pearle Cloudlet but fringe is much better.

note firm, stiff short leaves. (Lately Dimetris is working on better, more presentable rosettes)

Pavel recommends to remove all small leaves/rosettes from the center of the plant.
Here is the photo with two rosettes on the opposite sides of the pot.

This cultivar still has one problem that it share with all Silvia descendant. The blossom can fall easily when any force apply.
However, recently Dimetris hybridized new generation of Silvia-like Streptocarpus (color patter and no pistil, like Streptocarpus Wow and many others) that carries some double-flower genes that confer resistant to falling.

Interesting finding of one of growers. When DS-Crystal Lace was grawing in very cold condition (night t=5C) the flowers become almost white (left cluster only)

This one certainly creates an impressive "hat" of flowers! Wow!
